First Day of School…kinda…

September7

We have had a busy busy summer.  Mostly consisting of swimming and laundry.  We also unexpectedly bought a house.  We’ve been here almost a month and have yet to put everything away.  The new house is much larger then our rental but is lacking when it comes to closets.  Last night E and I hurried to get the last of the pile that had some how gathered on my dining room table put away in anticipation of Dal’s first day of homeschool.

This is Minnie Mouse.

minnie mouse

Now, what’s so great about Minnie Mouse?  Well, about a month ago I lost her.  I know mother of the year right here.  I remember her falling out of the car while I was doing an emergency change of Dal’s pants while at the park.  At that time I decided instead of picking up Minnie I would continue dressing my daughter and give Miss Minnie a hand when I was done.  Fast forward an hour later heading home, Dal asks for Minnie.  ?…!!! I backtracked to and around the park.  She wasn’t laying in the parking spot where we were parked.  I even drove around the entire park to see if anyone had found her and claimed her as their own.  Cuz a mother will do what a mother HAS to do to make her spawn happy (and to stop screaming).

Power Struggle

May7

Hellloooooooooo!  Erm…uh em…anyone here?  I know I know.  It’s been awhile….or a month and a half.  But I’m back and that’s gotta count for something.

THIS is what we’ve been busy with…

Happy tutu

Oh wait that’s not the right one.  That’s my beautiful, happy, tutu lovin daughter.  Hold on.  (clickity click clack tap click)

Sad baby

There it is.  The post-tantrum pre-nap two year old.  If only this picture had sound and a rewind button.  This power struggling toddler takes over my cute cuddley baby girl every day around nap and bed time.  We’re learning how to cope and I’m still looking for the right parenting book that comes with it’s own supply of chocolate.

Quiet Basket

March31

Lets face it.  Naps for a toddler are mostly for the parents.  Dal use to sleep, most of the time, when I’d put her down for a nap but recently she hasn’t been sleeping at all.  Instead she relaxes and gets some rest by jumping up and down on her bed.  In hopes of her (and I) having some quiet time I made her a quiet basket to keep next to her bed.  Its full of board books, sesame street figures, a small matching game and a few other small toys.

Ya Dig

March27

Spring is here which means sun, cool breezes, rain, and…snow…?  I planned on making this spring sensory tub so that we could play with it outside today.  But this is Kansas and she has a mind of her own.

I made a winter sensory bucket for Dal a couple months ago that was a complete failure.  My bucket was too big (Dal would climb in it and take a “bath”) and cotton balls apparently like to shed and attach themselves to my carpet.  With the weather not cooperating I was more then a little apprehensive trying this again in the house but with a few ground rules  threats we gave it a go.

Eating Numbers

March26

I love serving Dal lunch in muffin tins.  That’s what inspired this number counting snack.

Number Tins

I used magnetic numbers and put the same number of snacks next to that number.  Please don’t judge my snacks.  I was going to put some fruit in there but lets face it that didn’t happen and most of it I set out the night before.  If it can’t be nutritious, at least it’s educational.

Number Tin

See that face.  Sure she’s sweet and innocent until you put a few jelly beans infront of her.

Mr. Sun

March25

I’ve been wanting to have circle time with Dal for awhile now but wasn’t really sure how to start.  The other day I printed off lyrics for songs to sing and we made egg shakers (I’ll get around to posting that sometime….maybe).  Yesterday, for our art project, we made Mr. Sun collages to kick off circle time the next day.

Mr. Sun

I still need to do more planning and organizing but I think for our first try it went smoothly.  We started out talking about the weather, sang songs, read several books, sang more songs and finished with the hokey pokey.
